Mattie Ree Stewart

July 28, 1940 – September 9, 2023

Ms. Mattie Ree Stewart, 83, of Magnolia, Arkansas, formerly of Waldo, Arkansas passed away peacefully at Wentworth Place in Magnolia, Arkansas after a long battle with illnesses.  She was surrounded by family members.  Ms. Stewart was a longtime member of Westside Church of Christ in Waldo and was a faithful member until her health failed. 

Ms. Mattie was born to the late Mr. Charlie B. Davis and the late Mrs. Emma Burnell-Davis, July 28, 1940 in Emerson, Arkansas.  She was educated at Waldo Westside School where she was a graduate of the Class of 1959.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents, one son, Randy Bishop and a grandson Wallace Antonio Turner.  

She is survived by two sons, Mr. Dale Dewayne (Joyce) Bishop of Waldo, Arkansas, Mr. Frederick (Crystal) Haley of Rosston, Arkansas and god son, Mr. Sidney Hamilton of Magnolia.  Her only daughter, Ms. Phyllis Renea Bishop of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  One sister in California.  Her grandchildren, Barbara Mendenhall, Ebony (Trece) Robinson, Jonathan Mendenhall, Nilan McNiell, Damerkea Baxter, Cordaleius Baxter, Shantel Haley, Fredrick Haley, Jr., Mason Haley, Jordan Haley and Kylar Haley.  A host of great grandchildren.  Special friends, the Page family of Magnolia, Arkansas, The Watson family of Magnolia, Arkansas, Ms. Gracie Johnson-Shaw and the Johnson family, James and Shirley Davis of Dallas, Texas, Ms. Norma Jean Davis of Magnolia, Arkansas, Ms. LeAnna Burnell of Waldo, the remaining members of the Waldo Westside Class of 1959 and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

She loved  to cook, play cards and her family, especially her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was the life of the party and seemed to have a good time, no matter where she was or who she was with. 

Her service will be held at Westside Church of Christ; 201 Adair Street, Waldo, Arkansas 71770, where Pastor Donald Howell will serve as Officiant and Eulogist, Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00 A.M.  A public visitation will be held Friday September 22, 2023 at Hamilton-Davis Funeral Home Chapel, 415 East First Street; Stamps, Arkansas 71860 from 11:00 AM. until 3:30 PM.  Interment immediately following her service at Mt. Vernon Cemetery (Waterloo) 1152 Nevada 173; Stephens, Arkansas 71858.

Masks are optional but highly recommended with the onset of the sudden rise of the COVID Virus.  This is to take care of the health and well-being of those who are around, beside, in front of and behind each of you.  Your cooperation and assistance would be greatly appreciated.
