Ms. Helen Mathis, 78, of Emmet, Arkansas, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 28, 2024, after a battle with health concerns.  Ms. Mathis was the matriarch of her family, and it seems that the whole community had a direct connection with her.  She loved to fish, sing, cook and take care of her family and others in the community.   Most importantly she was a very active Christian and member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Deann, Arkansas where she served as an usher and choir member until she took her last breath.  She was the glue that held her family together.

Ms. Mathis was born January 2, 1946, to the late Mr. Wyatt Williamson and the late Mrs. Eltiser Washington-Williamson in Emmet, Arkansas.  She was preceded in death by both parents.  All nine of her brothers, Mr. Wyatt Williamson, Mr. Alexander Williamson, Mr. Benjamin Williamson, Mr. Thomas Williamson, Mr. James Williamson, Mr. Cardell Williamson, Mr. Ozell Williamson, Mr. Hiley Williamson, and Mr. Clarence Williamson.  Seven sisters Ms. Velma Chambers, Ms. Christine Williamson, Ms. Eunice Adams, Ms. Josephine Williamson, Ms. Jessie Stuart, Ms. Armedia Block and Ms. Arritha Wells.

She is survived by and leaves to share her many memories, two sons, Mr. Stacy Williamson of Emmet, Arkansas, and Mr. Willie (Shendra) Mathis of Forrest City, Arkansas.  Two daughters, Ms. Debra Jones of Emmet. Arkansas and Mrs. Theresa (Deon) Whiteside of Orlando, Florida.  Two sisters, Ms. Essie Morrison of Hope, Arkansas, and Mrs. Bobbie McFadyen of Chicago, Illinois.  Five grandchildren, Angelina Armstrong, Gregory Whiteside, Ariana McCulough, Montrell Mathis, and Taylor Whiteside.  Three great grandchildren.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, her lifetime friend since childhood, Ms. Shirley Luckett, longtime friend Ms. Virginia Preston, a very special nephew who was raised like a brother, Mr, Freddie Miller II and host of fellow Christians friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be held at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 799 AR 332, DeAnn, Arkansas 71801, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. where Pastor Patrick Gulley will serve as Officiant and Pastor Brandon Williamson will serve as Eulogist.  A public Visitation will be held at Antioch Baptist Church on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M.  Interment will be immediately following her service in the Antioch Church Cemetery.
